If you’ve taken a look at Instagram over the past couple of days you might have seen the new Instagram feature. A post shared by Instagram read:
“Starting today, you can share up to 10 photos and videos in one post on Instagram. With this update, you no longer have to choose the single best photo or video from an experience you want to remember.”
This coincided with their Instagram Story:
Instagram added: “When uploading to your feed, you’ll see a new icon to select multiple photos and videos. It’s easy to control exactly how your post will look. You can tap and hold to change the order, apply a filter to everything at once or edit one by one. These posts have a single caption and are square-only for now. On a profile grid, you’ll notice the first photo or video of a post has a little icon, which means there’s more to see. And in feed, you’ll see blue dots at the bottom of these posts to let you know you can swipe to see more. You can like and comment on them just like a regular post. This update is available as part of Instagram version 10.9 for iOS in the Apple App Store and for Android on Google Play.”
But how can you use the new Instagram feature to market your business?
Firstly, I’d suggest having a play and seeing what works for you and your audience. But, here’s a few suggestions to help you along the way…
- Tell a story – They say a picture is worth a thousand words. With 10 pictures, you can build quite a story, with a full arc from beginning to middle to end!
- Create a ‘How To’ guide – Put a series of images together showing off your industry knowledge, or just how useful your product is.
- Show off a range of products – Now you can post images of your products without spamming your audience! You’ve effectively got a carousel ad format to play with.
- Post all the details of an event – Images of who will be there, the details of where and when, and a method of getting tickets or access can all be shared in a single post.
Creating a new multi-image post is pretty easy. After uploading an image, you’ll see a little cascading square icon on the bottom right. Tap that, and you’ll then be able to pick up to nine other photos or videos to put in the post. You can even add Boomerang or Hyperlapse clips if they’re already in your phone’s camera roll. To reorder the images, just tap and hold on one. You can then drag it to change the order or to remove it from your post altogether. You can then either blanket all your selections with a filter, or apply different ones individually.
