Christmas comes but once a year – we should think about social media content now November’s here! Each year, as the Christmas season approaches, marketing campaigns seem to be EVERYWHERE with all businesses trying to cash in on the Christmas spending frenzy. So how do you create a social media campaign that competes? We’ve taken a look at some of the best campaigns of Christmas past, and put together a little list of social media campaign ideas for Christmas.
This sounds obvious. And it is! But think about adding filters or Christmas themed text. Make them compelling, but relevant to your business. You could even go all out and have your own Advent calendar, social media style… an image each day which has an offer, or reveals something new.
2. GET INTO THE FESTIVE SPIRIT
Remember those days, a long time ago, when we’d actually visit a shop to buy Christmas presents? What did they look like? As a kid, I remember the joy of seeing shops and the High Street decked out with lights, tinsel, trees and baubles. If I’m honest, I still love it! So why not give your social media pages some festive cheer? Switch your headers to something more Christmassy, give your logo a festive makeover. Below is Coca Cola‘s Facebook header from last Christmas. Notice how it even provides people with a festive hashtag to use? Just remember to change them back once Christmas is over!
3. SPECIAL OFFERS
Whilst it isn’t always the best option to go discounting your products or service, people do love a bargain. And especially at Christmas! Just make sure you’re getting something out of it too. Below is an annual Christmas offer from Boots – their 3 for 2 mix and match on Christmas gifts. Think about creating social media only special offers, one where the discount can only be applied if there’s an action (a page like, a share, a retweet) on your social media pages.
Think about a competition that your followers might enjoy – it could be a one off “tag someone”, or “share a photo of…”; or a continuous challenge with a compelling reward for the winner. You could consider running these online or even face to face which could be a great way to personally interact with those you only know online. Here’s one that Carling ran last Christmas.
This is just a sample of the social media campaign ideas for Christmas we’ve been bouncing around here at LAMB Social Media Management. If you’ve got ideas of your own, we’d love to hear about them.
